Dear Fellow North Carolinian:
Greetings and welcome to my Campaign Website. During the past five years, I have done my best to serve you and
all North Carolinians in the United States Senate. I have attempted to apply
common sense and conservative principles to every decision and discussion
in which I have taken part.
I ran for the Senate in 1992 on "workfare not welfare."
I kept my commitment and we passed tough welfare reform legislation. The
welfare reform bill Congress passed was not as strong as I would have liked,
but it is definitely a huge step in the right direction especially in the
areas of abstinence education, requiring work for benefits and addressing
illegitimacy as the root cause of dependency.
I am proud to tell you I've never
voted for a tax increase, and, I never will! Working families need more
tax relief!
As U.S. Senator I have worked for a Balanced Budget Amendment,
a national right to work law, a smaller Federal Government, and to clean
up our nation's capital. Now I'm fighting to scrap the complicated tax code
and end the IRS as we know it.
Many politicians in Washington are not used to my plain-spoken
manner. Many politicians are not used to a businessman,
who has spent his life in the private sector creating jobs, meeting a payroll,
fighting to protect our jobs, families, and our hard earned money.
Washington just does not need more slick
talking trial lawyers and politicians.
To win in 1998, I will need your help. I commit
to you to work hard and to run the best campaign possible. You will be kept
informed with this website. I invite you to join my campaign team and welcome
your e-mail comments and suggestions.
